Water Light Festival

From 24th April to 12 May 2024, the Water Light Festival, will take place in Brixen, in the Neustift Monastery and in the Franzensfeste Fortress: It enchants its visitors by illuminating the city in spectacular lights creating a unique atmosphere. More than 40 installations by internationally renowned artists such as Stefano Cagol, Filip Roca or Siegrun Appelt can be admired and are connected by a 3.2 km long blue line. 

The motto of this year's festival 'Water is Life - Light is Art' is closely linked to the themes of nature awareness and the sustainable use of water. It places the reflection of the future development of living space and society in times of nature destruction, climate change and crisis at the centre of attention.  

Numerous artists from all over the world will present various light installations and works of art, focussing on different fountains, the confluence of the Eisack and Rienz rivers and art-historical treasures of the town, drawing attention to the precious resources of water and light in their most artistic form. The city's cultural treasures and water points will be transformed into an open-air gallery around the theme of water and light. Water is transformed into life, light into art - this is what the Brixen Water Light Festival promises. 

The Bressanone Water Light Festival is open to the public free of charge for 19 days from 9 pm until 12 am. Only the 3 highlight artworks in the Herrengarten, the Hofburg and the City Library are chargeable.  Tickets for the chargeable installations can be purchased from Brixen Tourismus, online or on site during the 19 festival days. Entrance to Neustift Monastery and Franzensfeste Fortress are accessible during the day with the normal museum entrance fee.
