Pendant la saison froide, les amateurs de sports d'hiver à Merano et dans les environs ont le choix entre plusieurs stations de ski familiales, dont Merano 2000, Schwemmalm ou Plan. Le domaine skiable du glacier du Val Senales, qui compte quelques pistes très exigeantes, est en partie ouvert également en été.
Après une journée au grand air, on peut se réchauffer aux thermes de Merano et se détendre avec un massage. Pendant la période de l'Avent, il ne faut pas non plus manquer les marchés de Noël nostalgiques des environs. Le grand marché de Noël de Merano est particulièrement apprécié.
