Sentiers d'altitude dans le Tyrol du Sud
Une possibilité de respirer l'air alpin sans dépasser la limite des 3 000 mètres ou sans avoir d'expérience en haute montagne est de faire une randonnée sur les sentiers d'altitude du Tyrol du Sud. On y évolue en moyenne entre 2.000 et 2.500 m d'altitude, on parcourt de grandes distances sur les versants des plus belles montagnes de moyenne altitude et on peut en même temps acquérir une certaine expérience de la haute montagne en passant un peu plus haut sur un champ de névé, comme c'est le cas par exemple sur le sentier d'altitude de Stabeler dans la Valle Aurina.
Les glaciers très hauts sont particulièrement impressionnants lors des randonnées sur les sentiers d'altitude, car ils semblent à portée de main en bas du chemin et ne sont pourtant perceptibles que dans leur taille gigantesque.
La plupart du temps, les randonnées sur les sentiers d'altitude sont conçues pour plusieurs jours de marche. En effet, on parcourt un grand nombre de kilomètres et de mètres d'altitude. Pour ne pas se dépenser complètement, plusieurs nuits sont souvent prévues dans des refuges. Pour les sentiers d'altitude des Dolomites également, il faut tenir compte de la longueur respective lors de la planification de la randonnée. Des tronçons partiels peuvent bien sûr être réalisés en tant que randonnées d'une journée.
