Son histoire remonte probablement à l'Antiquité, les premiers documents écrits remontant au 12e siècle.
Autrefois, S. Andrea était un village typiquement dispersé, composé d'un petit centre avec une église paroissiale et de plusieurs fermes éloignées les unes des autres. Grâce à sa magnifique situation panoramique surplombant la ville épiscopale de Bressanone, S. Andrea est d'une part connue pour sa vue fantastique sur la Valle Isarco et les montagnes environnantes. D'autre part, la région est extrêmement ensoleillée, de sorte que l'on peut généralement profiter de l'offre variée de sports et de loisirs en pleine nature à la lumière du soleil.
Enfin, que ce soit en lisant sur une chaise longue, en faisant de la randonnée, du VTT ou du VTT de descente, en jouant au tennis ou en roulant à moto sur la route du col du Würzjoch, toutes ces activités sont deux fois plus agréables lorsque le soleil brille et que la vue au loin est magnifique.
Pendant la saison froide, S. Andrea n'hiberne pas, mais accueille les nombreux skieurs et snowboarders qui sont attirés comme par magie par les pistes blanches. C'est en effet à S. Andrea que se trouve la station inférieure du domaine skiable de Plose, qui offre environ 40 kilomètres de pistes, y compris la plus longue descente du Tyrol du Sud. S'y ajoutent un funpark, plusieurs pistes de luge, diverses randonnées à ski, des promenades en traîneau à cheval et, dans tous les cas, beaucoup de plaisirs hivernaux pour toute la famille.
